I'd rather have a stupid, ineffective corporate whore like Philpot than a smart and effective corporate whore like Matheson. With no ally to choose from, I will choose the weaker opponent. If you look beyond just votes, at what Jim Matheson does to progressive reforms while they are being crafted, it is clear that he is not a weak ally, but a powerful and effective opponent of climate legislation, health care, financial reform and democracy (aka getting corporations out of government.)
